
EnSt 370: Biological Conservation

Conservation biology is a science borne out of the current extinction crisis. This course will examine the causes of the decline of biodiversity across the planet, including social, economic and political, as well as biological, issues. Biological implications of this loss will be discussed, as will the ways in which further degradation of the ecological systems on Earth can be prevented. Specific topics will include habitat and endangered species management, conservation genetics, reserve design, environmental law and the history of the conservation movement. Prerequisites: EnSt 295 (preferred), Bio 2970 or consent of instructor.
